Drowning -Fatality at Meekatharra - Early on Wednesday morning whilst Mr. A J Gerick was looking along the creek for a straying cow, he came across the body of a man in Luke's Creek, just at the rear of the Daily Telegraph office. He at first thought the man was sitting in the water, hut on closer examination he could see by the discoloration of the face that the man was dead. The police were at once informed, who soon proceeded to the spot, and the body was identified as that of Andreas Oure, a bookkeeper and accountant, who has been for some years in Meekatharra.

It appears that the deceased was endeavouring to cross the creek at about 10:30. o'clock, on Tuesday night to reach his camp when he must have been overwhelmed by the flood waters and washed down some distance to where the body was found. At 3 pm on Wednesday an inquest was held before Mr. J S D'Alton, JP, acting coroner, The verdict was - That deceased came to his death at Meekatharra on the 9 th day of March 1926, by being drowned in Lukes Creek, whilst same was in flood, and he was endeavouring to cross the stream," It is not known whether the deceased had any relatives in this state, but he had been heard to say that he was the last of his kin.

A Sudden Death - AT SPRING VALE STATION.

A single man named John Pyne, about 56 years of age, died suddenly on Sunday last at Mr J. McKenzie's Spring Vale Station, about six miles from Abbotts. Pyne, who was in the employ of Mr McKenzie had a cup of tea at about 1 p.m. and then went to his camp about 100 yards away from the homestead. He had only, been there few minutes when he called out for Mr McKenzie, who at once went to him, and Pyne said he was very ill, and asked for brandy. As there was none on the premises, Mr McKenzie went the stable with the intention of putting the horse in the trap and driving to Abbotts for, some. However, he could not find the winkers and returned to the camp but to his dismay found that Pyne had succumbed. He at once reported the matter to the Meekatharra police. PV Cooney proceeded to Spring Vale, and brought the body into the Meekatharra Hospital morgue where, on Monday. Dr. Shields held a postmortem.
An inquiry as the cause of death was conducted, Dr. Shields Stated he bad made a postmortem examination on deceased, and found, the internal organs showed signs of disease. The liver was disordered, the lungs in an unhealthy state. The kidneys were also affected, and besides deceased was suffering from apparent alcoholism. The cause of death was fatty degeneration. Of the heart supervening chronic kidney granulation with alcoholism as the underlying cause.

Obituary - MR. HARRY L RICHTER.

The death of the above well-known Murchison resident took place on Saturday last. Mr. Richter came to the Murchison in 1897. His first position was that of baker for Mr. P. McAleer at Mt. Magnet. He left Mt. Magnet for Peak Hill, where he followed the same occupation in the employ of Mr. Field. After some two or three years he turned miner and worked on the Peak Hill Gold mine for some six years. He returned to the baking trade at Cue, working for Mr. Peterson After a short term he took a job on the Great Fingall Mine, where he remained until the mine closed down. About six years ago, he made his home in Meekatharra, where he followed the occupation of a miner. Mr. Richter was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge and took a great interest in the A.W.U. and always stood firm to its principles. He was a man that was esteemed by all who knew him. He was the father of a large family and did his best to bring them up in the right way. He leaves a widow, two daughters and a son to mourn his loss.

Found Dead at Meekatharra. UNDER SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES - BURIED WITHOUT AN ENQUIRY.

A STANDING DISGRACE TO HUMANITY.

A man named Donald Ross was found dead in his camp last Saturday morning under suspicious circumstances. An inquest was denied necessary, and the police telegraphed to Nannine for a doctor, who could not come owing to ill-health. The Warden at Cue was then communicated with by telegraph, and he replied that he would not send a doctor on account of the expense that would incur. The jury were then discharged by the Coroner, who gave an order for the burial of the body which was carried out.

The following day, Sunday night, an indignation meeting was held in the main street when the following resolution was unanimously carried. That in the opinion of this meeting the action of the authorities in refusing to send a doctor to Meekatharra to determine the cause of the sudden death of Donald Ross, and allowing him to be buried, without a certificate of death was not in keeping with the feeling of a civilised community.
