CORK TREE: ATKIN/ATKEN Charles Merrick Died 8.3.1903 aged 43 yrs, at Cork Tree near Tuckanarra on the East Murchison Gold fields. buried at Cork Tree by John Auld, Witnesses at the burial were Thomas Tweedie and H G Smith and A Shipway. Death certified in writing by Thomas Tweedie Coroner Cue. The deceased was an accountant poisioned by self administered cyanide. Born in Brighton Victoria to Charlotte and James Aitken. He was married to Margaret BARNMILL at the age of 28yrs in Victoria. They had four children, a son and three daughters.
