A goldfields town near Lawlers, Agnew was gazetted on the 22nd September 1936. It is named after Mr John Alexander Agnew, Underground Manager of the Sons of Gwalia Mine in Gwalia WA, WA Manager for for Bewick, Moreing & Co, Born NZ 1874 died USA 1939.
