He married Catherine Mary May in 1886 in Victoria. He then married Esther Sullivan in 1889 in Victoria. He died on 14 April 1898 in Kanowna, Western Australia, at the age of 33.
Western Australian Goldfields Courier 23 April 1898, page 28.The funeral of the late Robert Brookman GREY took place this afternoon and was by far the largest ever seen in Kanowna. Being a Mason, the deceased was buried with full Masonic honours. At 3:30, the members of the local lodge, together with several visiting brethren, arrived at the residence of the deceased, where they took charge of the remains. No less than 40 masons and 500 townsmen followed the remains. All the Cricket Club members took part in the procession, but Mr Sid Ward, of Tattersalls was the only visitor representing other clubs. The service in the Church of England was read by Rev Howes, after which Mr J Curtis, master of the local lodge conducted the full Masonic service, the first ever held in Kanowna.

The funeral of the late Mr H. J. Laccohee, which took place this afternoon, was largely attended. The deceased's fellow employees from the local Post Office were amongst the procession, and wreaths from the officials of various Post Offices were placed on the grave. The Rev. H.
