Yalgoo > Z Lonely Grave - Jane OLIVER

Lonely grave:- Jane OLIVER Died 5th Aug 1910 aged 42 yrs at the Golden Grove Hotel. Mrs Oliver died of septicaemia from an abortion. She was born at Dongara WA on 10th Mar 1869 and was the daughter of Leah (nee HUNT) and Henry HERBERT (butcher). At the age of 19yrs she married Thomas OLIVER. At the time of her death she had the following children:- Winifred Elizabeth age 19, Rhoda Leah age 16, Ivy Church age 14, Thomas Richard Herbert, Edward Henry, Alma aged 8, Robert Angus aged 4, Harry and three other sons who had already died. (This excerpt is from the book, ‘More Lonely Graves’ by Yvonne and Kevin Coate.)

Understandably she would have been reluctant to have any more children and this is why she took this dangerous solution which claimed her life. She is buried behind the hotel.

This photograph is her grave.
